A few simple steps to keep your belongings safe in transit and storage.
General tips
Wrap fragile items individually
Use bubble wrap, packing paper, or soft cloths to cushion anything breakable.
Fill every gap
Items that shift during transit are more likely to get damaged. Scrunch up paper or use towels to fill empty space.
Distribute weight evenly
Place heavier items at the bottom and lighter ones on top. This keeps the box stable and easier to carry.
Stay within the weight limit
Every box has a 25kg maximum. Overpacked boxes are harder to handle safely and more prone to damage.
Mark boxes with fragile items
When booking a collection, let us know which boxes contain breakables so we can handle them with extra care.
Seal the box properly
Use strong packing tape along all seams. A well-sealed box protects against dust and moisture.
Tips by item type
Clothes & textiles
- Fold neatly or roll to save space — rolling also reduces creasing.
- Use vacuum bags for bulky items like duvets and winter coats.
- Keep shoes in separate bags to protect fabrics from scuffs.
- Add a dryer sheet or cedar block to keep things smelling fresh.
Kitchenware
- Wrap plates individually in packing paper and stack vertically (like records).
- Stuff mugs and bowls with scrunched paper so they don't nest too tightly.
- Pad sharp edges on knives and utensils with cardboard or bubble wrap.
- Fill any remaining gaps with tea towels or dish cloths.
Electronics
- Use original packaging if you still have it — it's designed for the job.
- Wrap screens and lenses in soft cloth before adding bubble wrap.
- Remove batteries from devices to prevent corrosion during storage.
- Coil cables loosely and secure with ties to avoid tangles.
Books & documents
- Pack books flat or spine-down — never spine-up, as pages can warp.
- Mix heavy books with lighter items to keep the box under the weight limit.
- Use small stacks rather than filling a box entirely with books.
- Keep important documents in a sealed plastic sleeve for extra protection.
